ATENCIÓN FARMACÉUTICA EN PACIENTES ONCOLÓGICOS: UNA REVISIÓN INTEGRADORA DE LA LITERATURA

Currently, cancer is one of the most important public health problems. The drugs used in the treatment present high toxicity and adverse effects, requiring a multidisciplinary health team to assist this patient. The Pharmaceutical Care should try to reduce drug related problems, to achieve the therapeutic goals and prevent possible problems. This work aimed to analyze the effectiveness of pharmaceutical care in the treatment of cancer patients through a systematic literature review. The databases Pubmed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Cochrane, Virtual Health Library and Scopus. The keywords used in the search were: "pharmaceutical care" and "oncology", "pharmaceutical care" and "cancer" and their translations for portuguese and spanish idioms. Inclusion criteria were: original articles, the full text available in selected languages and suitability with the proposed theme. Initially 1584 article were found and finally 11 articles were selected according to the proposed inclusion criteria. The most frequent pharmaceutical interventions were patient counseling and prevention and resolution of drug related problems. In two studies where adhesion to the treatment was evaluated, adhesion superior to 90% was observed in patients with pharmaceutical intervention. Four of the studies showed the safety of the therapy as one of the leading pharmaceutical interventions. Studies showed that the groups that had contact with the pharmacist through consultations and visits showed a decrease in the toxicity of the treatment, increase in adhesion and an improvement in quality of life.
