PRESCRIPTIONS OF RESTRICTED USE ANTIMICROBIALS IN PATIENTS ADMITTED IN A TEACHING HOSPITAL

Objective: To evaluate the rationality of restricted use of antimicrobial prescriptions audited by the Hospital Infection Control Commission of a teaching hospital.

Methods: Follow-up study with prospective follow-up non-competitive 50 charts of patients admitted to a hospital for evaluation of antimicrobial prescriptions for restricted use. The parameter used to assess prescription rationality was the antimicrobial guide Sanford Guide and the diagnoses were classified by ICD-10.

Results: The most prescribed antibiotic piperacillin + tazobactam was 32%. There was a combination of two or more antibiotics in 44% of the studied prescriptions. The ICU was the clinic where the largest amount of use of these drugs. Empirical treatment occurred in 86% of cases. 56% of the evaluated prescriptions were inadequate when compared with the Sanford Guide ..
