PHARMACOVIGILANCE: KNOWLEDGE AND ACTION OF THE PROFESSIONALS FACING THE DEVIATIONS OF QUALITY OF MEDICINES

This study aimed to describe the knowledge and action of health professionals about the reports of diversion of drug quality by Sentinel Network, and to encourage this practice by them. The sample consisted of 62 healthcare professionals comprising pharmacists, nurses, practical nurses and anesthesiologists at the University Hospital / UFJF. Was used as a tool for data collection a questionnaire divided into two sections, the first comprised the variables that characterized the health professionals and the second, data about the occurrence of diversion of drug quality in the hospital. As regards the perception of deviations by professionals, 83,9% reported having seen a problem regarding the quality, but only 32,7% carry out the notification of technical defects by the Sentinel Network. It is concluded that underreporting is an obstacle to exercise more effective the actions of pharmacovigilance, since the occurrence of diversion of drug quality are generally not recorded. Therefore, we must continuously maintain the stimulus to this practice by professionals, to be assured that the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines for better provision of patient care.
