ACTUACIÓN DEL FARMACÉUTICO CLÍNICO EN UNIDAD DE CUIDADOS INTENSIVOS - ADULTO: UNA REVISIÓN DE LA LITERATURA

Objective: To review the literature on the role of the clinical pharmacist in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) adult, in relation to interventions. Methods: A search was conducted sensitized to the terms: clinical pharmacist, critical care and drug therapy in Medline and Embase, limiting in 10 years and with the Portuguese, Spanish and English language. Lilacs in the database, the terms were used: intensive care and hospital pharmacy service, without imposing limits. In addition, we examined the reference lists of articles found to identify additional references not found in the databases. Results: A total of 843 articles was found relating to the subject of interest. Of these, 20 were fully analyzed, with 10 excluded after full reading, did not meet the inclusion criteria. Studies have shown various pharmaceutical interventions in order to optimize drug therapy, to obtain better clinical outcomes, safety, effectiveness and economy. The recommendations had a high rate of acceptance by medical staff (71 to 98.4%). Conclusions: The high incidence of interventions accompanied by high acceptance rate confirms the importance of the role of the pharmacist in helping the care of critically ill patients.
