ROLE OF THE PHARMACIST IN CLINICAL RESEARCH

For approval of a new medicine, pre-clinical laboratory studies need to be accomplished until that therapeutic profi le is verifi ed and of safety that enables it to be tested in humans. Clinical studies are characterized as studies in humans divided in phases: I, II, III and IV. For the execution of the same ones, it is important to follow international and national norms made to protect the person doing the research. Th e clinical research is presenting itself in great growth and it is actively evidenced more and more in Brazil. In this work, through a bibliographical revision, the stages of performance of the pharmacist will be described in this process. The performance of the pharmacist stands out, in the current scenery, due to his professional competence. The conduction of a clinical study requests the participation of a series of health professionals and, the pharmacist,that acts in all it’s phases, sees in the clinical research an important field of interest and new possibilities of performance.
